Preschool Teacher Assistant

Location: NE Portland, OR
Type: Full-time (Year-Round)
Pay: $18– $23 per hour

Explorer Learning Academy – NE, a proud member of the ELA PDX, LLC network and sister company to Education Explorers, is hiring a compassionate and dependable Preschool Teacher Assistant to support our early learning classrooms.

As a Preschool Assistant, you will work alongside Lead Teachers to help create a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment. You will assist with classroom management, daily routines, learning activities, meal and nap supervision, and support children's social-emotional and academic development.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about early childhood education and looking to grow professionally within a supportive, equity-centered organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Lead Teacher in daily routines, transitions, and supervision of children

  • Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, and material preparation

  • Engage children in play, learning experiences, and group activities

  • Supervise mealtimes, diapering/toileting, and rest times in accordance with health and safety policies

  • Document children’s learning and development using the Kaymbu platform

  • Communicate positively and professionally with families, coworkers, and leadership

  • Maintain a clean, calm, and safe classroom environment

  • Uphold classroom expectations and behavior guidance practices that align with the values of empathy, respect, and consistency

  • Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and team meetings

Qualifications:

  • Must pass a background check

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Step 5 or higher in the Oregon Registry Online (ORO) preferred (or willingness to complete training to achieve Step 5 within 90 days of hire)

  • Experience working with young children in a licensed child care, school, or home setting

  • Proficient with digital tools including Kaymbu, Playground, and Google email (or willingness to learn)

  • Ability to lift, sit on the floor, and actively engage with children at their level

  • Strong communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a love for children
