ELA is seeking a dedicated and passionate Toddler Lead Teacher to join our team. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to lead culturally responsive programs for young learners. You will be responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum while fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports children’s growth and development.

Responsibilities:

The Toddler Lead Teacher is responsible for cultivating a nurturing, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where toddlers are seen, heard, and celebrated. The lead teacher will:

  • Implement a play-based, equity-centered curriculum aligned with child development best practices.

  • Uphold the values of excellence, pride, and inclusivity through classroom structure, design, and daily interactions.

  • Observe and assess children’s development using digital platforms and documentation tools.

  • Maintain licensing and SPARK standards for health, safety, and curriculum fidelity.

  • Foster respectful, trusting relationships with families, honoring the cultural and linguistic identities of each child.

  • Model best practices for assistant teachers and contribute to a spirit of teamwork and growth within the program.

Qualifications:

  • Oregon Registry Online (ORO) Step 8 (required)

  • Current Enrollment in Oregon Child Care Background Registry (CBR# must be valid)

  • Current Certifications in:

    • Infant/Child CPR & First Aid

    • Food Handler’s Permit

    • Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse (Safety Set training)

  • Minimum 50 hours of documented Infant/Toddler-specific training

  • At least 2 years of experience in an infant or toddler classroom setting

  • Bilingual fluency in African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and Standard English

  • Proficiency with technology for daily reports, digital portfolios, and family communication

  • Deep passion for early childhood education and a commitment to culturally sustaining practices that affirm identity and empower children
